Housing and admissions

How to get in.
It starts with a call.

No application fee, no online form, no waiting for an email that never comes.

  1. 1

    Call and talk to Brian

    (916) 838-0020. Describe the situation honestly, including anything you think might rule you out. It usually does not.

  2. 2

We work out which home fits

Emerson House if you are rebuilding toward independence. Rochester House if you need somewhere permanent. Sometimes neither, and we will say where to go instead.

  3. 3

You come in and we talk properly

An interview, the house rules read and explained, and the participant agreement. Nothing is hidden until after you move in.

  4. 4

    You move in and start

A bed, a chore, a routine, and a plan for work and money. The first weeks are the hardest and the most important.

A new resident arriving at the home and being welcomed at the door

The first day

Somebody is expecting you
when you arrive.

You will not be handed a key and left to it. Someone meets you, shows you the house, introduces you to the men you will be living with, and goes through the rules with you properly.

Bring what you have. If that is one bag, that is normal and nobody will remark on it.

See both homes

What to expect of the rules

Strict, and explained up front.

Both homes are completely drug and alcohol free, including marijuana, with testing at any time. There is a curfew. There are chores every day. You will be expected to work, or to have a documented reason you cannot. Zero tolerance for violence, stealing or disrespect.

Every resident reads the complete house rules and signs a participant agreement before moving in. Residents are program participants, not tenants. Ask for the full rules on the phone and we will go through them with you.

Make the call.

It is one conversation and it costs nothing. If this is not the right place, we will tell you where to go instead.
